The new, free-to-play battle royale Warzone also features the same technology powering Modern Warfare II In their June 8 blog post announcing Modern Warfare 2, they stated the following (we've highlighted the crucial bit for emphasis): Development on the all-new, dynamic Warzone 2.0 experience is also being led by Infinity Ward, along with Raven Software. Activision has explicitly confirmed this. We'll cut to the chase: Warzone 2 will be free to play. While information about Warzone 2 is relatively thin on the ground (although we do have an inkling of the Warzone 2 system requirements) Activision has given us some key information, so we can let you know definitively, whether or not Warzone 2 is going to be free.Īnd guess what? It's good news. Remember when loot boxes didn't exist? Or when DLC was just part of the game? Yeah, us too. But that doesn't guarantee that a future release will be. The original Warzone was, of course, free. Others are displeased that resources are being shunted to Warzone: Mobile, and some have pointed out that they'll lose all their Warzone cosmetics, according to Kotaku. The latest release in the Call of Duty series is almost upon us, and players are wondering whether Warzone 2 will be free. Some players aren't pleased, though, citing the fact that earlier battle royale games like Blackout from Black Ops 4 still have operating servers, while the original Warzone won't. "Expect a vast amount of gameplay choices across three Battle Royale maps (including Season 04’s new map Vondel), as well as Ranked Play, the DMZ Beta featuring five different Extraction Zones, BlackCell offerings, and more," it wrote. Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 was recently renamed simply to Warzone, and Activision is encouraging original Warzone players to jump ship to that title. The game was renamed Call of Duty: Warzone Caledera (after the 2021 Caledera map) following the release of Warzone 2.0 in November of 2022. It was an immediate success, reportedly hitting 30 million players just 10 days after launch. It shared a battle pass, weapons and cosmetics with 2019's Modern Warfare. Warzone came along in 2020, featuring two gameplay modes (battle royale and plunder) plus a single map called Verdansk that supported up to 150 players at a time.
